About me
Solar Zhu, a musician/film &social media composer from China, uses delicate and gentle melody lines to paint sweeping visual images. In the long history of music composition, she has gradually developed a unique style with his own creativity. Born in 1997 in Anhui, China, Solar Zhu studied piano at the age of three with Song Ze ( who was graduated at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music), and start played cello at the age of 12.
She graduated from the Department of Composition and Conducting of Shanghai Conservatory of Music with a degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2020. 2013 she studied composition and music theory with a famous chinese composer Guo Liang and 2015 studied with Chinese American composer Lu Pei.in 2017, she studied music production and film scoring techniques with China’s famous film and television music producer Qin Shile.
2021, she was admitted to California Institute of the Arts, Herb Alpert School of Music, and graduated from the Department of Composition& Experimental Sounds Practice with a degree in Master of Fine Arts in 2023. There, she studied film, animation and game scoring with renowned composer Karen Tanaka of the Los Angeles Film Composers Guild, music production and mixing and recording techniques with LA recording engineer John Baffa, and orchestration with German composer Wolfgang Von Schweinitz.
During her time at CalArts, she has worked on numerous original film, animation, and commercial soundtrack projects, including the “Surf Story” app campaign that is now available on the apple store, and the original graduation production “Happy Birthday” at Savannah College of the Arts in 2023; Collaborated with the Character Animation Department several times while attending CalArts, participating in works that have won awards such as: Seoul Indie Anifest Official Selection – Asia Road Competition；San Diego Asian Film Festival Official Selection；Silicon Valley Asian Pacific Filmfest Official Selection, etc.
With her exceptional organizational skills, she co-founded the “Shanghai Conservatory of Music Young Composers Club” during her studies at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and assisted in the organization of numerous concerts, excursions and lectures. Until now, she base in Los Angeles, where she is an active producer of music for film and television.
